🎵 We Are Not Sick at Lange Nacht Festival

 

Band of Burnouts is stoked to present a collaboration with the experimental theory band We Are Not Sick at the 2021 edition of contemporary music festival Lange Nacht Zürich.

 

We Are Not Sick is a hybrid theory/music group by Geert Lovink and John Longwalker. Combining a diversity of text-, image-, and music-genres, the project reflects on the encroaching sadness provoked by social media architectures.

Through this project they push for new modalities in both music and critical theory, to shake up both the dance floor and the lecture circuit. Utilizing a range of electronic musical genres for maximum reach, their debut album Sad By Design (2020) is not a soundtrack to a book of theory but rather a new attempt at expressing those same themes, using the same words but achieving different vectors of critique. Sad By Design is a ‘carrier wave for critical theory,’ crafted over two years of refining our answer to the question of what this new ‘critical music’ hybrid feels like to experience.

Lange Nacht Festival

At this year’s Lange Nacht (Long Night) Festival in Zürich, Band of Burnouts presents a mixed media installation of We Are Not Sick and the album Sad by Design. Visitors will be able to experience the immersive thought and listening experience, with a special zine* available for free onsite including a band poster, interview with Geert Lovink, information about how to remix the album yourself, and a micro-publication of lyrics from the whole album.
