On Commons: Pedagogy as Medium

Can design education ever be truly accessible and inclusive?

Through RCA2023 degree show, The Short Big will be activated through the live transmission of a 3-day programme, which will involve a range of round table discussions, talks and workshops from the @trumanbrewery, London.

Please join Marea Hildebrand (Founder and Director of School of Commons), Paul Bailey (Designer, Researcher and Educator) and The Short Big, as they kick off the programme in a roundtable On Commons: Pedagogy as Medium, a thought-provoking roundtable discussion around pedagogies and their influence in informing models of critical practice within design education and the industry.

Marea Hildebrand is the founder of School of Commons and has been leading the project since its beginnings in late 2016. She is interested in the future of learning, education and its institutions, peer-to-peer learning and especially transdisciplinarity and method transfer between disciplines.

Paul Bailey is an Irish graphic designer, researcher and educator based in London (UK), exploring a practice that is made public through exhibitions, publications, performances, workshops, writing and curation. He directed the MA Graphic Media Design at London College of Communication, UAL (2014-22), was a founding member of the Graphic Design Educators’ Network (2015-2021); and an advisor at the Jan van Eyck Academie
