ÉROTÌQ is a Rome-based audiovisual project that fuses glitchy noise-pop music with symbolic and unsettling imagery. On a thematic level, it offers a total immersion in the cynicism and hypocrisy of the contemporary world, tracing the collapse of symbolic structures and the nihilistic drift of mass society.
It operates as an apotropaic ritual within the landscape of hyperreality, of biotechnologies, epigenetics, algorithmic sexual selection, mass pornography, terrorism, and emerging conspiracy theories.
The visual material is drawn from years of research and collection of raw footage found online. YouTube videos sourced from marginal and hard-to-access channels documenting fragments of rarefied, unsettling realities often far removed from the Western imaginary. In this sense, the internet, an aseptic and mechanical tool, paradoxically becomes a means of reawakening a more primal sense of wonder: a childlike, archaic, almost spiritual curiosity toward the world, largely lost in everyday perception.
This visual archive is then reworked through artificial intelligence, which fragments, distorts, and expands it, mirroring the treatment of percussion and ethnic samples within the music.
At this point, sound and image synchronize and respond to one another, forming a single flow of abrasive sensory saturation, echoing the overstimulating logic of social media itself. The result is a testament to the contemporary: not a judgmental representation, but a sublimation of the absurdity we are now experiencing without being able to understand.
